1) What is A Virtual Server/Virtual Account?
We specialize in providing Virtual Server/Virtual Hosting solutions, which means that you can find an instant home for your web site on high-quality, "Industrial Strength" web servers and IMMEDIATELY establish a WORLD -WIDE presence on the internet. No need to purchase and maintain your own servers - you use ours!
A Virtual Server/Virtual Hosting account is part of a system which is capable of hosting multiple Domain Names. This system allows a single machine to act as many separate "virtual" systems.

2) Will I be able to have my own Domain Name?
Yes, we can help register your own domain name, which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Having your own domain name does not suggest that you are renting web space, but rather puts your "Internet Identity" on a par with the world's largest corporations!
Also, since email can be addressed to your domain (eg. WWW.YOURNAME.COM ) you will not have to announce a new email address if you change internet providers.

3) Do you offer dial-up internet access?
No, you will need your own local Internet access in order to "surf the net" and to retrieve your email. Providing a specialized service means that we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain enabling us to devote more time to our customers and to the addition of enhancements to the entire site. Our industrial strength web servers are connected to the Internet via full multiple OC-192 lines with multiple OC-48 lines as back-up, to ensure a high level of performance.

4) Do you offer web page design services?
Yes, we do! We offer a complete start to finish services, from registering your domain, to designing your site, to hosting and marketing your site to the world.

5) Can I upgrade or downgrade from one domain plan to another?
Yes. You can upgrade from one domain plan to another at any time. There is no fee for upgrading and downgrading.

6) Can I check domain name availability?
Yes. You can check domain availability now .

7) Does Hosting Web Sites handle domain registration?
Yes. We will register your domain for you for just $25 for a year, and just $50 for 2 years. You do NOT need to submit a $70 fee to Internic or Network Solutions!

8) Can I transfer an existing domain name to Hosting Web Sites ?
Yes. When you fill out our online Sign up form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for Internic to complete the transfer. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from the current site.
When Internic announces the completion of the transfer there is a 36-72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your site at Hosting Web Sites until they update their DNS.

9) How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.

10) What is the fee for domain registration ?
We charge only $50 - $20 less than Network Solutions. This fee covers the first two years.

11) What does "Data Transfer/Bandwidth" mean?
Data Transfer, also more commonly referred to as "Bandwidth" is simply a measurement of how much data (the data is comprised of your html pages and graphics) you can send through a connection. Usually measured in bits-per-second.

12) How do I transfer files to my web site ?
Files may be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you have a PPP internet account and need FTP software, you can download a program for either the PC or Mac from the web. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface.
For instructions on FTP, see the FTP Tutorials at FTPplanet.com.

13) Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day.

14) Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files ?
Yes, if you have more than one domain account at Hosting Web Sites we can point each domain address to the same HTML files. Also note that the same fees, disk space, and accompanying services (SMTP, FTP, POP3, etc.) will apply for all accounts in question.

15) Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?
Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become a most efficient and cost-effective means of making information available to the users of the internet community. If desired, secure processing is available for an additional fee, which provides an environment whereby payment information (such as a credit card number) can be transmitted from web browser to web server in an encrypted mode.

16) Can I resell space within my own account ?
Yes. You can resell space within your account. However, you will be responsible for its content, and making sure your customers comply with our "Acceptable Use Policies".

19) How long does it take to set up a new account ?
Once payment is received, your order will will be processed the same day! As soon as an account is set up an activation notice will be sent you via email including a userid, password, and FTP hostname.
At that point, you can begin uploading HTML files you have already worked on yourself to your new web site immediately. If needed, domain account users can be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or transfer.
For Dedicated Servers we reserve 4 business days from the time that we receive a signed copy of the agreement. In emergencies we can generally have you online within 2 hours.

20) How do I place an order ?
You can sign up for a plan for a Virtual Account or a Dedicated Server directly from our web site 24 hours a day!

21) What is the difference between Peak and Capped Dedicated Server Plans?
Capped Plans - Capped bandwidth simply means that you will not be able to transfer above the specified limit (for example, on a 1mb/s connection you would not be able to transfer data above 1mb/s (which means that the maximum amount of throughput you could see on a 1mb/s capped account would be around 10 gigs/day) If your server tries to use anything above your limit the router will simply throw out additional requests. You can easily upgrade at anytime. Many people like this package because it allows you to control your expenses (meaning you never get charged overage fees, etc) and it also allows them to have as much bandwidth capacity as they want because they can upgrade or downgrade at anytime. So if you are watching your server and one day you notice on the bandwidth graphs that we provide to you that your starting to get close to your bandwidth limit, simply call me and we will upgrade you to the next package if that's what you'd like to do.
Peak Plans - This plan bills you for your highest point of usage during the month and then provides you with that amount of capacity for the rest of the month. Bandwidth above your minimum commitment will be billed around 550.00/mb/s. So if signed up for the 2mb/s peak plan for 800.00 and you spike up to 2.5mb/s you would have .5mb/s of overage, billed at 550.00=$225.00 for overage. So if you spike to 2.5mb/s on the 800.00 2mb/s peak plan you would have to pay 1025.00 for that month, but could use up to 2.5mb/s for the rest of that month without being charged any additional overage.

22) What is a Dedicated Server?
A dedicated server is a single computer on our network reserved for serving the needs of one individual customer. To break it down into plain english, having a dedicated server simply means that you have your very own server for your exclusive use. No one except you and the Hosting Web Sites Support Team will have access to your server unless you supply other individuals with the login information. By going dedicated you are able to bypass the slowdowns and headaches of sharing a server with up to 2,000 other people (this number represents the # of customers that some of our competitors are currently placing on servers reserved for their virtual account needs). Dedicated hosting is an obvious recommendation to anyone who relies on reliablity, security, and speed as part of their success plan.
